37,000. That’s the number of people on average, per day, who flee their homes to seek protection and safety in another country. World Refugee Day, observed on June 20, honors the immense courage and sacrifice of refugees worldwide.
Zendesk supports several organizations that provide essential services to refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers, working to build and maintain new, resilient communities for these vulnerable people.
At this unprecedented time of upheaval and unrest throughout our country and the world, many important causes demand our attention and empathy. With World Refugee Day in mind, we wanted to highlight some of the organizations we partner with that are specifically focused on supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants as they journey toward a better future.
The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. The IRC has been providing aid to refugees and asylum seekers since the end of WWII. This #WorldRefugeeDay, we’re proud to join @RESCUEorg’s call to honor all refugees around the world who are essential workers and also essential to keeping us safe, keeping our communities strong, and rebuilding our world. To help the IRC continue to provide this and other critical support, donate here.
charity: water’s mission is to bring clean water to every person on the planet. Over the years, they’ve partnered with dozens of NGOs, including the IRC, to change lives all over the world. Help charity: water bring clean water to people in need by joining The Spring and making a monthly donation. Just $5/month can provide clean water to one person for an entire year.
HackYourFuture trains refugees, asylum seekers, and other disadvantaged groups in Denmark to become web-developers, empowering people with and without a coding background. At the end of the 32-week program, participants are ready to enter a very in-demand job market. Donations to HackYourFuture allow the organization to keep services entirely free for the students it serves.
The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) works to unite immigrants, refugees, allies, and community leaders. Refugees, immigrants, and communities of color have been dying at a much higher rate during this pandemic. Help the NYIC continue to create, maintain, and keep refugee and immigrant communities safe throughout the five boroughs by donating to the NY United Fund.
Welcome Collective helps vulnerable refugees in Montreal, specifically single parents, pregnant women, mothers with newborns, large families with young children, people with physical and mental challenges, and the elderly. The organization connects newly arrived families with locals who help them gather donated furniture and other essential items for their homes. Covid-19 has impacted its ability to support refugees and financial donations are needed.
Immigrant Defenders Law Center (IMMDEF) is a next-generation, 501(c)3 social justice law firm that defends immigrant and refugee communities in the U.S. against injustices in the immigration court system. With tens of thousands of men, women, and children currently being held at the U.S. border and in detention centers in dangerous conditions, IMMDEF needs support now more than ever.
